ABOUT

biography/cv
WANDA GALA is an arts educator, choreographer and ethnochoreologist from the US whose professional interest in the
embodiment of cultural phenomenon unifies her practical, academic, and artistic work. As a trained ethnochoreologist her
work is rooted in an ethnographic and anthropological approach to researching dance and human movement systems.
Her performance works examine the historical and contemporary entropies of individual and cultural ideals, mythologies and
fantasies. These," post nuclear family tales" (LA Weekly 2006) occur in theatrical, installation, filmic and site-specific
contexts.

Individual and collaborative works have been presented in the US and abroad in Poland, Switzerland, Scotland, and Italy. Most
recent showings include the screening of “Okno( Okna, drzwi, sciany)” at the American Dance Festival and Festival Era Nowy
Horyzonty in Wroclaw, Poland. Gala also choreographs works for performance artist, Narcissister, which have been presented at
such New York venues as The New Museum, Deitch Projects, and The Box.

Ms. Gala’s dance courses and performance laboratories have a strong base in classical and modern techniques they synonymously
address pedestrian movement through studies in movement impulse and motivation, spatial awareness, structural anatomy and
improvisation. Gala has worked with children in public and private schools in the US she has lead workshops for three years
at the Thirteenth through Fifteenth International Contemporary Dance Conferences in Bytom, Poland. Ms. Gala also has
served as an artist in residence at the Music Center of Los Angeles' Wolf Trap (2005-2006) and the Beacon Center for
Arts and Leadership (2007-2008).
